FAQs

Star Ridge Stables

  • Where is Star Ridge Stables located?

We're located off Highway 70 at 726 WC Braswell Rd, Selma, NC. When you arrive at the property, you'll find us in the first barn on the left. Please park in the grassy area where other vehicles are parked. Please don't follow the driveway all the way to the back, as that leads to the owner's private residence.
  • Do I have to own my own horse?

No, horse ownership isn't required to take lessons or participate in shows. We maintain a dedicated collection of school horses and ponies available for our students.
  • What is the student to instructor ratio?

Our classes typically range from one-on-one instruction to groups of five students per instructor. These smaller class sizes ensure each student receives the personalized attention necessary to build their skills and abilities.
  • Do I need my own equipment? What do I or my child need to wear?

Please wear long pants such as stretch pants, leggings, or jeans. Footwear should have a small heel, similar to riding boots. Tennis shoes and flat-soled shoes aren't safe for riding. We'll provide a riding helmet for you. All riders must wear an approved riding helmet while mounted for safety purposes. Bicycle helmets are acceptable. After three months, all students are required to purchase their own ASTM-SEI approved riding helmet.
  • When are lessons available? What will they cost?

We offer lessons year-round from Monday through Saturday. Lesson pricing begins at $65.
  • What if it rains on my lesson day?

Lessons continue regardless of weather conditions. We provide a comprehensive horsemanship program, and rainy days are used to teach important classroom components including horse tacking, bathing, basic first aid, clipping, and leg wrapping techniques.
  • Do I have to compete at horse shows if I take lessons?

No, competing in shows isn't mandatory. We provide various activities beyond showing, including fun days and in-house clinics.
  • What if I do want to compete at a show and I do not own a horse?

All of our lesson horses and ponies are available for any of our students to use at shows. Our collection of lesson equines can be utilized from your very first lesson through competition in the show ring.
